Seven days of rehearsals for the show ‘Pestle and Mortar’ with a group of women from Marseille, Colombia and Benin.
Three public performances including the La Criée’s season opening on Saturday (21/09/2024) at 12pm. A sound and culinary experience followed by a tasting, with 80 attendees for each performance (240 in total).

The dislocation of the social and cultural fabric in working-class neighborhoods and large urban centers is generating loneliness, violence and withdrawal for a large part of the population.
To break out of these states, these impasses Because U. Art works with an etnopsychiatrist to organize free discussion sessions based on real-life situations. During these sessions, we focus on different forms of abuse and violence (domestic and other).

“Sangre de mi sangre”, is a participatory artistic initiative born in Mexico and organized by the ‘Colectif Hilos’ that aims to raise awareness of feminicide and disappearances. This international action is based on the collective creation of a fabric, symbolizing the flow of blood and the urgency of solving these problems.
It’s an invitation to weave together a tapestry representing resistance and the search for healing. With each red thread, unity and determination in the fight against violence are expressed.
Thanks to the initiative of Lady Quintero and Ariadna Chavez, the group was able to discover this project at the association in complete privacy, and learn how to weave.

This workshop took place as part of J’CRAINS DÉGUN, a Marseille event organized to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Gender Minorities.
Accompanied by photographer Diane Hymans and guide Marielle …. – from the Bureau des Guides, this workshop explored the place of women in public space between Marseille’s 1st and 7th arrondissements.
Armed with disposable cameras, placed like prostheses on their bodies (bras, knee pads, headbands, etc.), the group explored downtown spaces where women’s place is challenged. Here, photography becomes a tool for reappropriation.

On the premises of the Solidarité Femmes 13 association, the group selected the photos that will form part of the exhibition at the town hall in Marseille’s 1st and 7th arrondissements. It was also an opportunity to validate the exhibition’s subtitle:“ خمسة في عينيك – khamsat fi eaynayk” literally translated as “5 in your eye”.
A way of illustrating this reappropriation of space and empowerment by women.

Danza Madre is a dance with a therapeutic and ritualistic approach. It is practised in a group and restores the place of each woman’s knowledge and culture, enabling them to reappropriate a practice handed down from woman to woman, or one from which women are excluded.
