Performance is a core element of 2026WOMEN methodology. Here you will find the original soundtrack of our performance ‘Simawe | See My Way’, premiered at Het Oude Badhuis (Antwerp, Belgium) in November 2024.

Why is it is so hard to accept
That equality is a simple fact?
I’m not yours, I am mine (mine)
I’m not told what to do and that’s fine
I am her and she is I / she is I
I don’t need a father nor a chief
Why is that so hard to believe?
I am her and she is I / she is I
I don’t need a father nor a chief
Why is that so hard to believe?
Won’t be told what to do
Won’t be told where to go
Won’t be told what to say
Won’t be told to obey
Won’t be told how to think
Won’t be told not to drink
Won’t be told what to eat
Won’t be told to be sweet
Won’t be told how to dress
Won’t be told not to stress
Won’t be told who to see
Won’t be told who to be
I am her and she is I / she is I
I don’t need a father nor a chief
Why is that so hard to believe?
I am her and she is I / she is I
I don’t need a father nor a chief
Why is that so hard to believe?

Don’t mess with Janaína
Janaína’s gaze is sweet,
And you may not take her joy,
Janaína’s smile is innocent,
And you may not take her joy.
She didn’t attend to school or study much,
But she has the goddess on her side,
Janaína, the fury of success sees no one,
The subtleness of oppression,
Does not lead you beyond (and does not ever take a leave tomorrow).
It’s her black skin,
It’s her pearl and brow skin,
It’s Central and South America
A earth gaze and the warmth of Africa,
Where only supremacy brings competition.
But in Janaína’s gaze,
There is no room for war,
There is no room for war,
There is no room for war.

I’m the musical instrument, of your resonance
In my mirror, I’m powerful, I’m magical
3x
You try to restrain me, while my own femininity is the only way,
I’m her naked body, and you don’t have a say
2x
I’m her naked body and you don’t have a say
3 x
I’m her naked body and you don’t
I don’t train for beauty,
I don’t train for belly,
all choices are mine
4 x
In my mirror, I’m powerful, I’m magical / (choices are mine)
In my mirror
Shhhh – Let’s shush stereotypes!
2x
I blossom and I bloom even when I’m tiny,
I carry difficulties in my soul,
I don’t train for beauty or belly,
Do you see me as soft fragile and emotional
2 x
